ICSR Research Projects

Pluralistic, interdisciplinary and methodologically rigorous research across the social sciences, bringing together quantitative and qualitative expertise.

Our research model

Different methods, shared questions

ICSR projects are designed around intellectual openness, methodological diversity and collaboration across research groups.

Pluralistic research

The International Center for Social Research develops projects in line with the pluralistic methods embedded in the ICSR research programme. Our projects are interdisciplinary and involve researchers from across the social sciences.

Each ICSR research group maintains its own focus, while researchers from different groups may collaborate on the same project whenever their expertise can contribute to a fuller understanding of the subject.

Mixed research methods

Our decision to move beyond methodological uniformity has led to projects explicitly based on mixed-methods research. These projects combine the work of researchers specialising in quantitative analysis with the expertise of scholars working through qualitative approaches.

By bringing these two strands together, ICSR seeks to produce analysis that is both empirically robust and sensitive to context, interpretation and lived experience.

Quantitative methodsRandomised control trials, survey analysis and impact analysis
Qualitative methodsInterviews, focus groups, observation and discourse analysis
